Rock Climbing

We offer personalize, small group rock climbing instruction and guiding in Duluth and on the North Shore of Lake Superior for beginning and advances climbers.  Take an adventure of a lifetime with expert climbing guides and picturesque river and Lake Superior views.

 

Rock climbing sites include the Whoopie Wall and Ely's Peak in Duluth, and Shovel Point at Tettagouche State Park, Carlton Peak at Temperance River State Park, Silver Cliff and Palisade Head on the North Shore of Lake Superior.

 

Positive Energy Outdoors provides rock climbing, guiding, and instruction 7 days a week.  The rock climbing season runs from mid-April through late October.  Call about conditions if you are in the area during the beginning or end of the season.  Minimum age for rock climbing is 8.  Most climbing sessions begin at 8 a.m., as climbing sites are first come-first served.

 

During our customized half day (4 hours) or full day (6 hours) rock climbing sessions, you will:

 

Receive an introduction that includes a safety and gear overview, climbing and belaying technique and coaching, and an introduction to anchor set up.

 

More experienced climbers can explore topics including intermediate and advanced climbing technique and advanced climbing technique, sefl-rescue skills, rappelling, and anchor building instruction.

 

Hear stories about the unique natural and geographical history of the region and rocks you are climbing on, from Blake Cazier, one of the region's most experienced climbing guides.

 

Advanced reservations are required, as space is limited and climbing sessions sell out quickly.

 

 

Half Day (4 hours) Ely's Peak Rock Climbing

Join Positive Energy Outdoors at Ely's Peak near Spirit Mountain in Duluth for beginning-intermediate climbing with a fantastic view of the St. Louis River valley. This a perfect climbing destination for visitors and locals alike.  Catch sight of stunning wildlife such as hawks soaring overhead and view of the St. Louis River.  A variety of climbs with heights of up to 60 ft are a short walk from the parking area.

 

During this personalized, small group 4 hour rock climbing experience you will:

 

- Receive a full introduction, including cliff edge management, safety equipment, harness and helmet fitting, and an introduction to anchor set up.

- Learn how to tie climbing knots, pracitice belaying techniques, and receive coaching as you climb from Blake Cazier, one of the region's most experienced climbing guides.

- Hear stories about the unique natural and geological history of the region and the rocks you are climbing on.

Half Day (4 hours) Shovel Point Rock Climbing

Shovel Point is a true climbing destination. With routes for beginners and experienced climbers, Shovel Point also offers your small group a gorgeous hike, unique natural history features, and the opportunity to explore Tettegouche State Park and Lake Superior. The cliffs are directly above Lake Superior, and climbers rappel from the top and then climb back up. Comfort with rappelling or a strong sense of adventure and no fear of heights will provide the best experience.

 

During this personalized, small group 4 hour rock climbing experience you will:
