Rock Climbing

We know you want to make memories in the outdoors but you wonder if everyone, especially the kids, will have fun.  Each year, PEO helps hundreds of people try new outdoor activities.  PEO's beginner-friendly Rock Climbing Tours introduce your group--regardless of ability or age--to climbing. You’ll have a blast climbing in Duluth and on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Get started in 3 easy steps!

 

1. Choose the date and time for your Rock Climbing Tour and book online or call for more information: 218.391.0147.

 

2. Read the confirmation e-mail.  You'll receive directions to the climbing location, a detailed list of what to bring and wear, and the assumption of risk form.

 

3. Meet PEO's staff at the climbing site.  Enjoy beginner-friendly instruction, starting with a an introduction to safety equipment, including harnesses and helmets. See how climbing anchors are built and learn to belay. We’ll set up climbs that give your group the appropriate level of challenge as you take advantage of unforgettable photo opportunities and make memories you'll talk about for years to come.

No previous rock climbing experience is necessary, and ages 4 and older can climb. PEO provides all equipment and instruction. Directions and a list of what to bring and wear is provided in the confirmation e-mail.

Family Rock Climbing Tour

Are you looking for family-friendly rock climbing that's great for children 4-12 years of age?

Join us in Duluth at the Whoopie Wall in West Duluth or at Ely's Peak near Spirit Mountain for a morning of rock climbing.

 

Tour includes:

 

-Introduction to safety equipment, harness and helmet fitting, and anchor set up.

- Learn how to tie climbing knots, practice belaying techniques, and receive coaching as you climb from Blake Cazier, one of the region's most experienced climbing guides.

- Hear stories about the unique natural and geological history of the region and the rocks you are climbing on.

 

Climbing at Ely's Peak:  $475 for 4 hours.

Climbing at the Whoopie Wall:  $275 for 2 hours.

 

Start times: 8 a.m. for Ely's Peak and 9 a.m. for the Whoopie Wall. Tours offered 7 days a week.

Ely's Peak Rock Climbing

Join Positive Energy Outdoors at Ely's Peak near Spirit Mountain in Duluth for beginning-intermediate climbing with a fantastic view of the St. Louis River valley. This is a perfect climbing destination for visitors and locals alike.  Catch sight of stunning wildlife such as hawks soaring overhead and view of the St. Louis River.  A variety of climbs with heights of up to 60 feet are a short walk from the parking area.

 

During this personalized, small group 4 hour rock climbing experience you will:

 

- Introduction to safety equipment, harness and helmet fitting, and anchor set up.

- Learn how to tie climbing knots, practice belaying techniques, and receive coaching as you climb from Blake Cazier, one of the region's most experienced climbing guides.

- Hear stories about the unique natural and geological history of the region and the rocks you are climbing on.

 

Up to 2 climbers: $300.  Additional climbers: $75 per person. Tours start at 8 a.m. for 4 hours.

Shovel Point Rock Climbing

Shovel Point is a true climbing destination. With routes for beginners and experienced climbers, Shovel Point also offers your small group a gorgeous hike, unique natural history features, and the opportunity to explore Tettegouche State Park and Lake Superior. The cliffs are directly above Lake Superior, and climbers rappel from the top and then climb back up. Comfort with rappelling or a strong sense of adventure and no fear of heights will provide the best experience.

- Learn how to tie climbing knots, practice belaying techniques, and receive coaching as you climb from Blake Cazier, one of the region's most experienced climbing guides.

- Hear stories about the unique natural and geological history of the region and the rocks you are climbing on.

 

Up to 2 climbers: $350.  Additional climbers: $90 per person. Tours start at 8 a.m. for 4 hours.
