With routes for beginners and experienced climbers, Shovel Point is a true climbing destination! It offers gorgeous hikes with unique natural history features and the opportunity to explore Tettegouche State Park and Lake Superior. The cliffs are directly above Lake Superior, so comfort with rappelling or a strong sense of adventure and no fear of heights will provide the best experience.
During this personalized, small group, four-hour rock climbing experience, you will receive a full introduction to rock climbing, including safety equipment, cliff edge management, harness and helmet fitting, and an introduction to anchor set up. We’ll also teach you how to tie climbing knots, learn top belay and rappelling techniques, and more. Receive coaching from Blake Cazier, one of the most experienced climbing guides in the region. And you’ll also enjoy interesting stories about the unique geological and natural history of the region and the rocks you are climbing on.
This activity is not suitable for some participants with pre-existing health conditions. Consult a physician before climbing if you have unmanaged diabetes, seizures or epilepsy, cardiovascular disease including high blood pressure, a neck or back condition, or are in the first trimester of pregnancy or are postpartum.
Please note that all participants must read and sign an Assumption of Risk Form/Waiver prior to participation. Minor participants under 18 years old must have a parent/guardian sign the waiver on their behalf. A parent/guardian must be present for the activity.
